Back in the ‘90s in the cultural bastion known as Wichita Falls, Texas, Justin Smith and Jason Welch shared a dream that was only a little homoerotic. That dream? A band. A rock band. Ooh, wait! A jam band! That way they’d only have to write two or three songs.

So they snared some other musicians and christened their new creation “Bigloo,” a moniker that would be misinterpreted, misconstrued and misspelled for years to come.

During a shift in personnel, the original duo staged a coup and landed local guitar hero Dee Kinnett, who was known for his ability to play blistering solos with his hair like some kind of heavy metal Medusa.

For several years Bigloo couldn’t keep a drummer because they kept forgetting to feed them. Or fed them too much.

Then fate befell our hapless heroes. A young sprite from Denton, Texas, named Paul Davis ran a red light and hit the boys in the "band" van. With no insurance to his name, Paul entered a life of indentured servitude and somehow learned to play drums and sing along the way.

But Paul’s bladder put an end to Bigloo’s jamming ways. A new recipe was needed.

So they added two parts Beatles, one part Dylan, a cup of Hall & Oates, a dash of Stones, and a smidgen of Floyd– and I think some dolt spilled a little Journey into the batter. But by then it was too late. The musical cake was on the rise, and they had ten minutes to get to the gig.

It was all a delectable success. So in the year 2000 they packed up and moved to Dallas, ready to serve their new concoction to the masses.
