Formed in 2001, the band began as a duo with Earl Clark on acoustic guitar and Buzz Busby on upright bass. In 2002, Mike Clark joined with his guitar and Clark moved to mandolin. The next year they added Joe Morrow on banjo. Blue Valley released its first CD in September 2005.
