In January of 2001, Logiene (a popular Dallas-based punk pop band) disbanded only months after having finished recording their first official album with producer/Hagfish guitarist Zach Blair. Some members had gotten engaged while others were merely sick of “going through the motions” week after week. However, guitarist Brian Holbrook and drummer Dustin Crabtree weren’t quite ready to call it quits just yet.

In the fall of 2002, Brian received a phone call from his younger brother, Joey, who sang and played guitar. At the time, Joey was working on original material to play at his high school’s annual Battle of the Bands, and asked Brian if he’d be interested in joining him as a bassist for a one-time performance. Brian agreed and recruited Dustin to complete the power trio. The first incarnation of the Lash Outs was born.

After only a handful of practice sessions, the band swaggered onstage and obnoxiously unveiled their loud, sweaty creation on the night of March 28, 2003. Their set was a brief yet deafening display of cathartic rock and roll stripped down to its bare essentials. They cranked out four songs in under ten minutes. Dustin exited the stage, his forearms throbbing. Joey panted in a pool of sweat, using his t-shirt to wipe the spit from his microphone. Brian stepped outside for a cigarette.

Now fast forward to January 2005. Brian and Joey decided to start a new band, only this time with Brian on rhythm guitar. They met each week to practice what little material they’d written. Their musicianship had improved and their tastes in music had become more eclectic since their last project. They decided to keep the same garage punk energy, but incorporate elements of rockabilly, blues, hard rock, and '60s “girl group” pop as well. In the fall of 2005, former Logiene bassist Adam Allen joined the group. Adam’s prominent, driving bass lines played a large part in shaping the sound of the group. His style fit right in with Joey’s twangy lead and Brian’s distorted power chords.

All they needed now was a name and a drummer. It took them weeks before finally settling on their previous name - The Lash Outs. They spent months trying to find the right drummer. Eventually, Brian and Adam convinced Dustin to fill the position, completing the line-up.
