The Phantom Rockers formed in 1988 in the U.K. after Mark Burke left The Krewmen. Their first album, Kissed by a Werewolf, became the best selling psychobilly record in Europe in 1989, establishing the Phantom Rockers as one of the biggest bands of the time in the U.K. scene. They have been credited, along with the Meteors, to being the first to bring psychobilly to the U.S. with their 1993 American tour. After several years of extensive U.S. tours, the European lineup split up and went back to the U.K. while Mark decided to stay in the States. He eventually wound up in Dallas where he met ex-Exploited guitar player Karl Morris who also found his way to Texas via the U.K. The two reformed the Phantom Rockers and created a U.S. lineup. Two albums and many tours later, Karl decided the U.S. was not for him and he returned to the U.K.
The Phantom Rockers are Mark Burke on lead vocals and upright bass, Scotty Tecce on drums (Kim Lenz, The Fabulous Harmonaires), Nick Warneke on lead guitar (The Atomic Fiends), and Jake Galindo on rhythm guitar (Sick City Daggers). Known for their post-show antics, the self-proclaimed "shagmasters" have released 10 albums and have shared the stage with many influential bands such as The Guana Batz, The Meteors, Anti-Nowhere League and Rev. Horton Heat.
