Soulbol was formed in 2003 by Quentin Moore, a former football player for the University of North Texas and musician for Morse Street Church in Denton, Texas. He decided to form a group with the vision of performing live R&B/neo-soul in the vein of DAngelo and Erykah Badu. Originally the band was a 9 piece cover band that made its way around Denton/DFW playing top 40 and contemporary R&B. Quentin then made a decision to convert the group into a smaller ensemble in late 2004 in order to focus on writing and performing neo-soul/jazz influenced originals. Today, the core band consists of members who either attend or graduated from the University of North Texas, with the exception of Ron Hall, who once toured with jazz great Grover Washington.
The band has the versatility of playing their neo-soul/jazz driven originals, as well as a thick repetoire of originally arranged, contemporary R&B covers. They can also can shift into the jazz/smooth jazz genre and play old school R&B when they need to get the old heads bouncing. Above all, the band members love to stay true to their hearts, performing lush, catchy, vintage-retro originals. Quentin Moore and Soulbol leave its crowds vibin', laughing, snapping fingers, and closing eyes, but most of all, wanting more!
