Ryan Smith, an active musician, engineer, composer and arranger, earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. Additionally, he holds a certificate in audio engineering from Cedar Valley College and is a graduate of the nationally-known Arts Magnet high school in Dallas Texas.
As a performer, Ryan plays violin and sings, with occasional use of guitar and piano. He has appeared with Grammy-nominated jazz artist Mike Bogle, folk/country artists Lyle & Doris Mayfield, the UTA Symphony Orchestra, UTA Jazz Combo, UTA Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Northwest Bible Church Orchestra, and Dallas ISD All-City Orchestra. Additionally, Ryan has recorded and released seven albums of his own.
As an engineer, Ryan has worked or interned for various individuals such as: Scott Conklin (violin), Frank Mantoothe (jazz piano), Mike Bogle (jazz trombone and piano), 100 Love Sonnets (rock), June Hunt (Hope For The Heart) and Dr. Frank Minirth among others. During his formative years, Ryan was privileged to study with some of the best musicians and engineers in the industry: Kerby Stewart (Stan Kenton, Woody Herman), Kent Ellingson (Norah Jones' piano teacher), Tom Van-Schaik (Dixie Chicks, Robert Earl Keen), and David Boothe (Barney The Dinosaur, Hope For The Heart).
From 2002-2004, Ryan worked with his musical mentor, Grammy-nominated composer/arranger Mike Bogle. With Bogle, he studied jazz performance and arranging. Additionally, Ryan worked as 2nd engineer for Bogle's 2004 release, Eternal Family, which reached number 28 on the national Jazzweek Radio Chart. Ryan owns and operates his own studio, Green Field Recordings, and is currently working on several projects with fellow musicians.
