Rising from the ashes of longtime Dallas alternative rock band, the Bat Mastersons (1989-2006), Slam Bang Theater was formed in April 2007. SBT consists of founding/longtime members of the Bat Mastersons, Byron Lord (vocals/bass guitar) and David DiPietro (drums/percussion).
The Bat Mastersons achieved a great degree of success in the early to mid 1990s, when their tune, "Wishing Well" (written by Lord) entered the Top 50 Internationally in France, as well as becoming a staple on the College Charts in the United States. Darin Robinson, another longtime veteran of the Dallas Music Scene, completes the trio (lead guitar).
Following the Bat Mastersons' final concert performance--opening for Lisa Loeb at the State Fair of Texas in October 2006--Lord and DiPietro immediately began auditioning prospective guitarists to fill the role in the new group. After seeing and being impressed with Robinson's onstage intensity and technical range as a guitarist with the Mumbles (a Dallas punk-rock cover band), Lord and DiPietro immediately offered him the job, which he accepted.
The initial March 2007 rehearsals of what eventually became Slam Bang Theater also included former Course of Empire guitarist, Mike Graff. After several rehearsals (reportedly so astonishingly loud, they caused several witnesess to flee the sessions covering their ears), Graff opted to pursue his own solo glam-rock project, leaving Slam Bang Theater to continue as a slightly less volatile 3-piece.
