The Trinity Hall Sessions Players began on October 13th, 2002. Ken Fleming, host of the session, approached Marius Donnelly of the Trinity Hall Pub & Restaurant with an idea to have a performance every Sunday afternoon featuring the top players of traditional Irish music in the Dallas area and guest players from throughout the region. Marius loved the idea and THSP has been playing ever since.
The format is similar to a session, but players are invited and rotated each time to limit the number to five. Normally, Ken who plays accordion and banjo, is joined each week by someone on fiddle, flute, guitar/piano and bodhran. Essentially, it's a performance, but it has an element of informality that makes the music fun for the players.
In the spring of 2004, the Trinity Hall Session Players recorded their first CD called Live at Trinity Hall, which is available for sale at the pub and from session players. All of the proceeds go to support the Traditional Irish Music Education Society, the organizer of the O'Flaherty Irish Music Retreat.
