Winter in Texas....when the temperatures drop into the 90's, the live oak leaves stay firmly on the trees, and if we have snow, it's because the ice maker is on the fritz again.

And once it becomes cool enough to not expire of heat exhaustion in crinolines, the three members of Celtic group Amberhawke and their good buddy Alan Dudley become Under the Mistletoe, a Christmas carollin', Yuletide singin', eggnog swiggin' quartet of fun.

The group wear their finest Victorian garb, and sing in such a pithy "Jolly Olde England accent" that you're going to be looking around for Ebenezer Scrooge and the Ghost of Christmas past!

West Fest Polka Festival Westfest kicks off the the weekend on Friday evening with the Miss Westfest Contest. Gates to the fairground (in West, Texas, south on I-35 just beyond Hillsboro) open at 5:30 p.m., and you can hang out touring the food booths until closing time at 12:30 a.m. If there was ever a place to do your "wurst," this is it, folks! And don't forget kolaches for dessert. More info
