This trio consists of three blood brothers: lyricist Focus aka Hannibal Raheem, lyricist/producer OneSelf Salaam and lyricist Tree. All members are originally from Waco, Texas, with OneSelf and Tree residing in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Raised on '60s and '70s soul and jazz music, the members of Verbal Seed are influenced by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Roy Ayers, Maze, Minnie Ripperton, Donny Hathaway, Roberta Flack, Miles Davis and many more. The group discovered hip-hop in the early '80s with the sounds of Grand Master and the Furious Five, Sugar Hill Gang, Dougie Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew, and others.
