There's been a lot of commenting about my story on Dallas' "Operation Rescue" and the city's official Help the Homeless week, which begins Sunday. That inspired me to write this editorial today for the Dallas Morning News. I believe it's the first time lil' ol' PegNews.com has joined in a conversation with the elder statesman of local media, Belo. I look forward to continuing our civilized and lively debate and reading perspectives from across the spectrum on our site.

A point so key it bears repeating: "Instead, they move the problem temporarily into our hospitals, churches and jails."
Well done!

Someone has started a Dallas homeless blog The Streets of Big D

CC your column is linked and posted on this blog. Not much conversation yet but they have been keeping up with the recent headlines. It looks like a good start.

Nice Pegasus cross-pollenation, Catherine! A question for you:
In your investigating and interviewing, has anyone in Dallas suggested doing something like Roseanne Haggerty and Common Ground are doing with supportive housing in New York City? It just seems that there are so many empty buildings downtown that could be converted into these kinds of units, which seem to be more attractive than the stereotypical "shelter."

"Operation Rescue"
Wasn't that the radical anti-abortion group led by Randall Terry?
Nice article, though. And in the DMN! I can't believe they'd mention Pegasus by name.

You make us proud Catherine. At last an alternative to BELO's views is available in Dallas. We need Pegasus.

Thanks for helping to keep a spotlight on the issue.
In honor of todays date:
" More than 25 percent of the homeless population in the United States are military veterans, although they represent 11 percent of the civilian adult population, according to a new report. " "About 44,000 to 64,000 veterans are classified as "chronically homeless" -- homeless for long periods or repeatedly." http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/11/08/home...
