Thanksgiving

Square Pegs

Published: November 22, 2007

  • I'm thankful that the business we were slaving to launch on this weekend last year is still here.

  • I'm thankful for the longtimers on the PegNews team who, if they had a lick of sense or instinct for self-preservation, would have jumped for the liferafts by March.

  • I'm thankful for our new team members who are just in time to keep us from turning last year's new idea into the status quo and who are already making us far better than we were.

  • Perhaps paradoxically, I'm thankful for the various knives I've pulled out of my back this year -- they've made me both more careful and more grateful for those who are always around to clean up the blood.

  • I'm thankful for all of those who have embraced PegNews and made it a daily habit -- particularly those who speak up and make this a community conversation rather than a lecture.

  • I'm thankful that the people at our new partner/parent/benefactor, Fisher Communications have been better than their word -- and are supporting us at every twist and turn, while not trying in the least to change what we are.

  • I'm thankful that April was beside me through the ups and downs of this ride; that she refrained from suffocating me with a pillow in my sleep as I led us down the road to potential ruin; and that she just fed me a vegetarian Thanksgiving dinner so delish that I didn't even miss the turkey. I'm thankful that she talked sense into me when the roadbumps pushed me to the edge. I'm thankful that she scraped change together to buy bottles of cheap champagne to celebrate every minor victory. Certainly I loved her when we married some eight years ago -- but what she's done and been to me these last two years are beyond my ability to thank.

  • I'm thankful that I got to spend a whole day offline playing with our dogs.

  • And I'm very thankful that we have the opportunity to pursue the ideas crafted over the fall of 2004 (albeit with major changes in strategy) to fruition -- and in relative comfort and security. That's something that was in doubt so many times over he past few years, it is truly a miracle that I can publish this now.
  • For what are you thankful?
