Yosty! I'm not seeing a cover charge on your calendar, confirm/deny?

At last! My opportunity to pretend I don't know how hard running a bar is and trivialize the task of keeping your chops up on that schedule and say "So Dude, That's why you have a bar, just so you have a place to play!"

Man, I wonder if I can wrestle loose tomorrow. I wanna see that.

Doyle - cover? Your Scot is showing ;o)

nope, no cover

Rick Yost Verified

Yes- it's me! I've not played in almost a year, so we'll see if I can remember how to do this.
And the Doyle is correct- No cover! 7-9pm.
Aside from classic rock and blues, I also play my own original folk/rock.
Think of my posts here on Peg, now try to put that same acerbic hubris to music- that's me. ;-)

I've opened for folks like B.W.Stevenson, Robert Earle Keen, Kinky Friedman, Bugs Henderson, Ray Wylie Hubbard and others. I'm included on a compilation album with Sara Hickman and Billy Joe Shaver.
I won the 2001 Wildflower National Songwriting Competition. It's been a hoot!

Hm, we might have to come out there tomorrow, then, and not hole up in the fishbowl upstairs.

Do I get a free drink for the shameless bump? Even though I cheaped out and asked if there was a cover?

Definitely going to make every effort to be there. Hope you rock your own house, Yosty!

Doyle- although we'd be honored to have your presence grace our humble establishment and my humble performance, alas, no free drinks.

Come on out and heckle me. Unfortunately, we can't afford to screen the stage with chicken wire, so there will be no throwing of beer bottles, or fruits and vegetables allowed.

Are the Wetahdeds playing as well?

1 month, 3 weeks ago ( Link to this comment | Suggest removal )

Rick Yost Verified

No, but neither are Rented Lips, Concrete Grass, or Throbbing Gristle. We just can't afford such big names yet. But soon.

So no covers of Rawhide ?

Feh!

$3 wells & domestic longnecks is tolerable, so no worries. Also, I surprisingly have a reasonable amount of respect for musicians - won't be throwing anything or heckling while you're on stage.

I'll just light up a cigar and discuss the imminent smoking ban while you're up there. =p

Hey Rick, thought maybe I would come down after work this evening and check out your place. One question though, do you really let these other miscreants in your establishment?

Our money's as good as anyone's! Provided you don't mind a little dirt and hobo blood.

1 month, 3 weeks ago ( Link to this comment | Suggest removal )

Travis Bush Verified

In fact, I demand dirt, hobo blood and unidentifiable ichor on all my bills.

I enjoyed hearing you guys play Rick, even if you refused my request for Taco Sauce AND Xanadu. Your bar is great too, very chill and relaxed.

Nice to meet Pavel too! It was like a cereal killers convention.

Yup, good times were had. I was actually kind of surprised to find out that I enjoyed the music a lot.

I'm so jealous. Dang. New kitten in the house. Ain't nobody goin' nowhere.

Yost wouldn't give me a free drink, so I didn't drink at all! Muahaha, take that...The Man!

I was the DD. =( Pretty sweet digs with Yosty on his gee-tar, though. Definitely need to try and make the 1st set next trip.

Thanks to all those here who made it out. I'm humbled by the extra effort you guys made to come hear me play my first real gig in almost a year.
I think a good time was had by all- myself especially.

Yeah, I guess the rebel went home thirsty. -The Man.

Only two pictures really came out at all. I need to get a fancier camera (so I can get drunk and drop it on something.) Click for fuller-size.

Well, bummer, I'm out again tonight. Is this going to turn into a regular date?

1 month, 2 weeks ago ( Link to this comment | Suggest removal )

Scott Doyle Verified

Think it's only for October, at least for the time being.

Very unfortunate you're not as dedicated to Yost as some of us, J-Rice. T-Rex was there last time, unbeknown to us until he was departing.

1 month, 2 weeks ago ( Link to this comment | Suggest removal )

Jason Rice Verified

Well who's to say I wasn't... except for my obvious apology and the likelihood that a geek would stand out down there like a hooker at a bas mitsvah.

Scott Doyle Verified

Have you ever been to Pearl? Guarantee my peeps with mohawks, who are half the age of most patrons, stand out worse than you would.

Definitely going to make it out barring an emergency between now and then - Yost has some pretty good stuff. Not just plugging it since he's a PN regular...dude knows what he's doing. In fact, our acquaintance is probably to his detriment since we don't exactly see eye to eye on some issues potentially affecting his bidness. =)

Hope to see some of y'all tonight!

::Have you ever been to Pearl?

Had a coke kvetching about email list maintenance with Tracy. Love the layout and the vibe. Awesome location.

We actually rehearsed a show for Bucket Productions (a previous theatre of ours) where the pool table now sits back when it was a dress shop.

Thanks to all who did make it out. We really appreciate seeing your smiling faces in the audience. Oh hell, we don't care if you're smiling or not. Just as long as there are warm bodies in the room to play to.
And The Doyle is correct- we're only scheduled to play Wednesdays in October.
Our Wednesday band moved on to bigger things, and the Sofa Kings are just kinda fillin' in until Shelley Carrol's Jazz band starts playing in November.
Which will be great for those folks who enjoy really exceptional jazz.

Again thank you to all. We'll be playing Wednesdays for the next two weeks. After that...well, we'll see what happens. Perhaps we'll move to another night.
Anyway, I hope to see you all again soon.

Rick Yost is a fierce guitar player and singer, whether solo or backed by the awesome Sofa Kings. They did excellent covers of Allman Bros and Eric Clapton plus original tunes too! great way to spend a wednesday night - and for good company, you can't beat the patrons of Pearl

Unfortunately won't be able to make it tonight, Yost - some dudes are gonna surf buttholes at the Granada and Pavel was so excited he bought an extra ticket (that I'm hesitantly taking and repaying him for before favors are asked).

Definitely need to keep playing whenever y'all can, though! Very much dig it. =)

Well, I still won't be there tonight and I still think y'all should play whenever you can past next Wed. =) Hope I can make the last Oct show!
