The KHYI 95.3 The Range unofficial Yahoo Group, as well as Bruce Kidder's Hard Country Radio list has been a'buzz the past couple of days. The gossip in question was whether or not the announcement that Bruce Kidder was stepping down from his weekday 6-9 am slot, and Natalie was taking over, was true or not.
In case you aren't familiar with the on-air personality history over at KHYI, Bruce Kidder was the original program director/morning show host since KHYI's inception back in 1994. Natalie was hired just a year or so ago (I don't listen to the station anymore, so it could be more or less), so it seemed odd that the powers-that-be would slide her into the station's biggest money-makin' slot. However, the Star-Telegram reported this morning that the gossip and rumors are true...with one (makes sense) addition...
Popular radio personality Nadine Bodett has found a new home: Plano-based Americana station KHYI/95.3 FM "The Range." Bodett, who has been heard locally on Fort Worth's KFWR/95.9 FM "The Ranch" and Arlington-based KSCS/96.3 FM, took over the Range's 6-9 a.m. slot Wednesday...
Back when I worked at KHYI, the mere idea of putting a female on the air was laughable. Kidder's alleged disdain for the fairer sex was legendary, although I think they had gals on the air at some point in the past.
There is still a ton of speculation that this is an elaborate April Fool's joke and that Natalie and Nadine are just stepping-in to allow Bruce a much needed vacation. Regardless, this news is quite interesting and it'll be interesting to watch...or listen as the case may be.
UPDATE: It seems that Bruce is indeed gone for good. He made mention (via a message on his Yahoo Group) of an upcoming online show from his Hard Country Radio site , but that's about all we've heard from Big Daddy hisownself or the powers-that-be over at KHYI. I've got a message in to Josh Jones to find out the real scoopage, but I doubt I'll hear back.
Having worked for the station for almost a year, I know how slow they are to update the KHYI official website, so I find it interesting that Bruce's profile and picture were ripped from the site with such speed. Hmmmm...if you ask me, this was not an amiciable parting of the ways... I'll keep ya posted...

Dear Lord, if you're up there and you care, please take Bruce The Idiot far, far away (maybe Florida?), from all time slots, from my listening ears. I'll finally be able to ditch The Ticket if I never have to hear that schmoe again.
Natalie, for what it's worth, is a good deejay and 1000% more enjoyable than the gibbon and his cheer squad.

That "schmoe" built that radio station from the ground up, and it is becoming just like 99.5 The Wolf, it is a sad day in radio. I guess now I'll have to start listening to my cd collection.

I've had my moments with Bruce Kidder, but there is no doubt that Bruce made KHYI what it is today. As program director and an on-air personality, he did a tremendous job in building the only interesting and decent station (music-wise) in DFW.
He's been infuriating at times, but he built that station and deserves better treatment than what he's gotten. Of course, this is just an assumption, but having worked for the station, I'm assuming he got screwed over.

Bruce Kidder was the only reason I listened to the station. Sure, he could be annoying but he was the closest thing thing to original that I've heard since the hey day of KZEW. He was genuinely cool. I enjoyed Natalie for about 2 weeks. Her small bag of nothing is now displayed on a much larger stage and obscurity is sure to follow. Congratulations KHYI, you've gotten rid of the one thing that set you apart from the field. Now you're just like all the other country stations that I already don't listen to. Mediocrity rules!!!!

At the last TMR Bruce wanted to pay Jack Ingram for performing.
Well the smarmy old smart alecks said no, they weren't going to pay Jack for playing the gig. Bruce got red as hell, grabbed his family and walked out of the event, and that was the end of his employment at KBOX...err KHYI.
