Nolan Catholic High School’s Board was among eight governing or advisory boards of Catholic education that received the Outstanding Board Award from the National Association of Boards, Commissions and Councils of Catholic Education (NABCCCE) when the group convened in Baltimore this week. NABCCCE is a commission of the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA), which is holding its 104th annual convention and exposition April 10 to 13.

The award was presented to representatives of the boards at the Outstanding Board Award Luncheon on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at the Baltimore Convention Center. Mr. Stephen R. Hiner (NCHS Principal) and Mrs. Guadalupe Arriola Sanchez, both board members, received the award.

In existence for 34 years, the advisory board is composed of members from among the following groups: the Marianist priests and brothers, the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur, a diocesan priest, NCHS parents, and members of the Tarrant Country business community. Their role is to advise the administration of the school on policy matters, specifically in the areas of strategic planning, institutional advancement, facilities and finances.

Administered in the Marianist tradition of education, the board’s philosophy is based on five characteristics from that tradition: education in faith, a holistic education, education in family spirit (community), education for service, justice and peace, and education for adaptation and change.

Each year the NABCCCE recognizes boards, commissions, or councils of Catholic education whose work is outstanding. This award acknowledges outstanding work, encourages excellence, and provides models for other governance groups.
