Club Dada and G2 Music announced today that Fever in the Funkhouse , the legendary band from Deep Ellum circa 1990, will reunite to headline at Club Dada on the night of December 31, 2007. The lineup will include three out of the four original members including frontman Nick Brisco (Café Antarsia Ensemble), guitarist Chris Claridy (Darren Kozelsky band), drummer Bryan Wakeland (Polyphonic Spree), and non other than Brad Houser (New Bohemians) who will sub for original bassist Jim Holbrook. The show will mark the first time the band has played as a foursome in over ten years.
In late 1996, Club Dada and Parallax Records teamed up to produce the first reunion show that featured all original members of the Funkhouse four. The show drew a record crowd and earned the band the Dallas Observer Award for “Best Live Performance of 1996”. It was on that night the band released its first full length CD entitled Then Again on Parallax Records. The retrospective CD featured 11 previously unreleased tracks that the group recorded in the early 90’s while under a developmental deal with Polygram. Soon after these tracks were recorded the band parted ways leaving behind only fond memories and dusty DATs.
The only actual recording of Fever that was ever pressed and sold while the band was together was a cassette entitled Life Stories and Jam recorded by Terry Slemmons at Inside Tracks in Denton. For all those Fever fans who wore out this hard to come by collectable you are in for an added bonus in 2008. G2 Music has pressed a limited amount Life Stories and Jam which features some of the bands earliest work dating back to 1989. The CD will be available for sale at the show and G2 Music will also offer these nostalgic tracks in a digital format.
“I am a Fever In The Funkhouse fanatic and I am thrilled to have a special show like this to introduce this incredible music to Fever fans and a perhaps whole new audience” said Gust Kepler of G2 Music. “When I released Then Again on my previous label, Parallax in 1996 the response was incredible. I can’t wait to get this incredible album out on CD as well.” added Kepler.
"We are so excited about returning to Club Dada and Deep Ellum to give this New Year's Eve concert.” said Frontman Nick Brisco. “Through the years the fans have kept Fever alive and now we have a chance to honor them, the club, and the scene that gave us our first inspiration and the chance to create and play live original music. This show is long overdue and it's gonna Rock!" Brisco added.
Doors will open at 8pm and Somebody’s Darling will open the show. Tickets will be $25 at the door and include a champagne toast, party favors, and black eyed peas.
