On July 25, school officials from Ursuline Academy of Dallas issued a letter to parents and students regarding recent allegations that an unnamed school official has had inappropriate sexual contact with a student. The full letter is as follows:
Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Graduates:
This is to inform you of an urgent matter that recently came to the attention of the Ursuline Academy community. We were shocked to learn of allegations regarding inappropriate sexual contact between a faculty member and one or more Ursuline students. The allegations were promptly reported to the appropriate state authorities. Further, the faculty member was immediately suspended and is no longer employed by the Academy.
The matter is now under investigation by the Dallas Police Department. The Academy and its counsel are in contact with the investigating officer and we have pledged our full cooperation to the authorities. We are in the process of conducting our own internal investigation and we would welcome the assistance and cooperation of our parents, students, and recent graduates. Please call us directly with any information and concerns.
In addition, we are thoroughly reviewing all of our policies and procedures presently in place to ensure the health and well-being of all of our students. We recognize now that even more is needed. We will update you as revisions and enhancements of existing procedures and new procedures are implemented for the coming school year. We are also planning additional, focused educational programs on these very important issues for presentation to both faculty and students.
As a matter of policy, Ursuline conducts initial and updated background checks on all employees. Each year, the employees also are required to participate in Safe Environment training and to sign a document which registers their agreement and willingness to abide by all Ursuline policies.
Finally, we are heartbroken as we bring this message to you. At Ursuline Academy, the wellbeing of our students is at the very core of our mission and always is our first concern. Please know that we are doing everything possible to ensure the safety of our students.
We do not, and will not, tolerate any actions that compromise the welfare of our students. We pledge our continued vigilance in these efforts.
