Hockaday qualified an unprecedented 15 students to the Texas Forensic Association State Championship, considered to be the toughest state competition in the nation. Most schools only send 3-5 students. Those who qualified were Form I student Megha Motgi; Form II students Divya Balan, Kathleen French, Aanika Patel, Jessie Risman, Ely Shapiro, and Shivani Vohra; Form III students Haley Altabef, Audrey Baker, Lindsay Dolan, Joan Gass, Christine Manthuruthil, Jenny McCartney, and Berenice Villela; and Form IV student Taarini Vohra.
Senior debater Taarini Vohra placed 2nd place in Texas, out of the 190 competitors from the 95 schools that participated. Joan Gass and Jenny McCartney placed in the top 16 and Berenice Villela and Lindsay Dolan made it to elimination rounds. Hockaday had the most students of any school to reach elimination rounds. Currently, the debate team is ranked among the top five teams in the nation in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
