You're right, Luniz. I didn't think about the tag and how incongruent it is. Progress in Motion. You know. As opposed to all that stagnant progress other cities have.

I think you're exactly right, J_Mortimer.

Having sat through more than my fair share of "branding" presentations, I think the designers probably said something along these lines when presenting to the client:

"We have gone through a lengthy branding process leading to our recommended design this morning. Our selected design combines the historic railroad roots of Frisco -- hence the mark that looks like an 1930s railroad logo -- with the dynamic nature and future orientation of today's leadership -- the 'Progress in Motion.' brand promise line. The period after 'Motion' symbolizes the insight and decisiveness so evident to us as we have gone through the process with you, Mayor."

Translation: "We came up with this at 3 this morning, after you rejected every other idea we had as too "out there." Pretty neat, huh?"

Kirk, as it turns out, it wasn't nearly that difficult for the brainstorming team. That's because, as you suspected, J_Mortimer hit the railroad spike on the head. It's EXACTLY the sign from the FRISCO (Saint Louis and San Francisco Railway Company) Railroad. Exactly. the same. sign.

Holy Crap!

I searched the internet high and low for a railroad logo that looked like that and I couldn't find it. I really just thought I was making an impressionistic guess. I really don't remember ever seeing that logo before.

I guess maybe I saw that once upon a time and then it got buried in the dark synapses in my small mind where grey spiders and little mice live.
