UPDATED: Looks like King Tut exhibit is coming to Dallas

DALLAS — An entry on Mayor Tom Leppert's official calendar for Monday morning seems to indicate that the King Tut exhibit is coming to Dallas.

It took two of the DMN's very best men -- Michael Granberry (the former Texas Living writer who now has the fancy-dancy title of "visual arts writer") and crack reporter Dave Levinthal, and in fact they are two of the DMN's very best men -- to unravel the following:

The notation on the mayor's calendar reads as follows: "9:30 AM-Press Conference Announce Egyptian King Tut Exhibit (Dallas Museum of Art)." When reached for comment on Friday, however, the mayor's office had no comment. ...

Earlier this week, the DMA announced that it would be making a "landmark announcement" at 10 a.m. Monday. That's exactly what the blockbuster exhibition of ancient Egyptian artifacts is. ...

According to the news release, Mr. Leppert will appear alongside outgoing DMA director John R. Lane, and both will be accompanied by a "visually stunning parade down Flora Street," along with "the unfurling of a banner underscoring the announcement."

Oh yay, this comes in the nick of time, as I was just trying to figure out what to do for a topical Halloween costume this year.

From these tiny shreds, they've concluded that "Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs" will, yes, be coming here.

They then go off on a whole pop culture Tut dissertation (we'll guess this is where the Visual Arts writer came in, and Dave L. is the one who was combing through Leppert's blackberry) that reaches all the way to Steve Martin's King Tut character on Saturday Night Live. Nice!

Granted, I'm old, but am I the only one that remembers that this is not Tut's first Dallas appearance?

N-e-v-e-r-m-i-n-d....that wasn't the King Tut Exhibit that was in Dallas back in 1989.

:) Yes, 'Czar ... you said that and you are right about Ramses and the tricky mind too. Not only must I become adjusted to the tricky mind and other age-related surprises, but I have to get used to (:::cough:::sputter:::) being wrong as well.

Seems there had been much ado around the country about Tut's Exhibit before the Ramses exhibit came to Dallas. I probably merged the info along the way. BTW I'm getting good at doing that these days.

King Tut was not a Saturday Night Live skit, it was part and parcel of Steve Martin's road show and his lone hit single ( I never forget the time Henry Winkler embarrass his ass holding a cardboard sphinx on stage while Steve Martin boogied ).

It is time to kick up some dust with old King Tut, realized in or a around 1924 by lord Cavandish, and brought out of room temperture for 3.000 years, the curse of the Mummy is forever an intresting event to observe, and yet it is like Holloweeen and black cats, who would beleive in such things...now back some years ago when Tut was sleeping on stage in New Orleans, stange events took place, during and after the old Mummy had visited the Southern place, what was later to become the home of Vampires....ok, superstition and ignorant observations...the Mummy will hold audience one more time,only in Dallas Texas Of all places, while the royality of wealth will get to observe....a dynasty of Health and good taste a Cardboard Cowboy could not afford., until then. It is time to kick out the jams, as they say in Detroit, Dallas is rockin and not really rolling, but it is coasting and whos to say with a Hault, while old King Tut is in town .......Big Tex is loney this years, has the chicken pox and so lets enjoy Harvest time.... 2008 october, the last quarter of a very difficult but transforming year, until then Alexander Troup. They had no Kotton Kandy at King tut, but Pleanty of room to find a place to create a line, Sunday was good, oh well. Pleanty of time and not until May of 2009, Will the tut have to go back to his room in Egypt have fun. Alexander Troup. h.
