One O’Clock Lab Band to perform at UTD September 28

RICHARDSON The University of North Texas’ internationally renowned One O’Clock Lab Band will perform at The University of Texas at Dallas Conference Center at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28.
The One O’Clock Lab Band is the premier performing ensemble of UNT’s world-famous jazz program, which was created in 1947. The band has released 35 albums, four of which garnered Grammy nominations. They have received awards from National Public Radio, VISA International and the Dallas Observer Reader’s Poll, and regularly headline at the International Association of Jazz Educators conference.
Regarded as unsurpassed among university jazz bands, the ensemble has performed at the White House and with such artists as Tony Bennett and Ella Fitzgerald. Directed by Neil Slater, who received his own Grammy nomination for best arrangement on Lab ‘91, the ensemble has toured Finland, Germany, Portugal, France, Thailand, Mexico, Canada, Australia, Japan and Russia. Past members have gone on to play in bands led by Count Basie, Branford Marsalis, Harry Connick, Jr., Doc Severinsen, Woody Herman, David Lee Roth and Bill Evans.

Tickets are $20 for general admission, $10 for students and free at the door to UT Dallas students with a valid Comet Card. UT Dallas ticket office hours are from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and at the door one hour prior to show time.
