BURLESON The Burleson Community Chorale is 60 members strong and ready to perform as the opening act on the main stage at Burleson’s Founders Day on Saturday, Oct. 13, in Old Town.
The chorale sings everything from show tunes to gospel, religious music, folk, patriotic, fun songs, and classic choral.
The performers became one a few years ago thanks to the organizational efforts of the Burleson Independent School District’s Community Education division. The chorale met and practiced in the Community Education offices and in the music rooms of Kerr Middle School. After two or three months, the group grew to 15 people and moved to St. Matthew Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where they now practice on Sunday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. The chorale’s president, Clayton Boyd, said he hopes to someday have 100 to 150 people in the group.
The chorale includes Paul Badgett, Dorothy Beauchamp, Clayton Boyd, Jackie Boyd, Mary Brewer, Caroline Carroll, Gladys Celey, Bill Compere, Sharon Cregg, Donna Dake-Williams, Lou DeMott, Patsy Dumas, Anissa Duncan, Jerry Fladeland, Helen Hanson, Anne Hargrove, J.D. Burleson’s own Quebe sisters will fiddle and sing their way through a 90-minute set that starts at 4:30 p.m. on the main stage next to the railroad tracks.
Founders Day is a joint effort of the City of Burleson’s park and recreation department and the Burleson Heritage Foundation.
