Apparently, it's only a matter of time until the entire North Texas area looks like this contemporary photo of downtown Los Angeles.
Since its chances for joining the ranks of Mile High Club member cities seem remote, Frisco can instead bask in the glow of its induction into the 100,000 Club.
Meaning 100,000 citizens now reside within its municipal boundaries. As of April 24, other North Texas communities that have reached this milestone include Dallas (which surpasses that ranking by an order of magnitude), Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, Garland, Irving, Grand Prairie, Mesquite, Carrollton, McKinney and Denton (listed in order of decreasing population).
Frisco - whose rapid growth has begin to slow - listed 33,714 residents in the 2000 census, which means that it's tripled in population in eight years.
Plans for a municipal celebration are pending.
