The Colony Firefighter’s Association will be putting on the second annual “Take on the Heat” Triathlon Aug. 17. The race is a sprint distance triathlon consisting of a 350m swim, 12mi bike, and a 5k run. The event will begin at 7 a.m. at the LISD Natatorium at the northeast corner of the intersection of Memorial Drive and South Colony Boulevard, The Colony, Texas.

About 285 participants took part in 2007 and plans are to have 300 athletes participating this year. Go to this website or this website for more race information and registration information.

The race serves as the association’s primary fund raiser which supports the “Friends of Firefighters” account. This year the association has paid for medical bills of injured firefighters, assisted firefighters with terminally ill family members, and contributed to various fund raising events for severely injured firefighters, both from The Colony Fire Department and around the country. In addition, the proceeds from this race also fund the annual Christmas toy drive.

For more information, please contact Lt. Shannon Stephens of TCFD at 972-625-3944.
