NBC’S “Last Comic Standing Live Tour,” featuring North Texas native and show winner Iliza Shlesinger, comes to the Bass Performance Hall on Wednesday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m.
Iliza Shlesinger on Last Comic Standing
America voted Shlesinger to be the “Last Comic Standing” on the sixth season of the popular NBC reality show and competition. She won a $250,000 grand prize, including an exclusive talent deal with NBC, a new Honda, and a starring appearance in Jubilee! at Bally’s Las Vegas. Shlesinger will be joined by four show finalists: Marcus, Jeff Dye, Louis Ramey and Jim Tavaré.
ILIZA SHLESINGER (winner): Shlesinger hails from Dallas, where she performed with improvisational comedy troupe ComedySportz before moving to Boston to attend Emerson College. She currently lives in Los Angeles. In 2007, Shlesinger won Myspace’s “So You Think You’re Funny” contest and has been featured as the G4 Network’s MySpace Girl of the Week. Her TV credits include appearances on E! Network’s Forbes Celebrity 100, America’s Next Top Producer and Byron Allen’s Comics Unleashed. She has written for Heavy.com and is currently a host/writer for GoTV. Her standup comedy resumé includes performing in various cities in Asia for the Armed Forces Entertainment, the Las Vegas House of Blues, The Comedy Store, New York Comedy Club, various Improvs and the Friar’s Club of Beverly Hills.
MARCUS (finalist): Raised in Salt Lake City, Marcus – who just goes by his first name – is quickly becoming one of the fastest-rising stars in comedy today. He won the 2007 Rocky Mountain Laugh-Off and the 2007 Seattle International Comedy Competition. From an early age, Marcus had a talent for impersonating others; he was already doing impressions by age 10. Over the next 20 years, Marcus dabbled in various careers, including acting, professional wrestling and singing in a rock band, before he found a job at a local radio station anonymously doing celebrity impressions. Someone suggested he give standup a try, and Marcus has never looked back.
JEFF DYE (finalist): Jeff Dye is a rising star in the comedy scene who has performed around the country. In 2007, he won the Giggles 10th Annual Laff Off and took third in the Giggles Laff Off in 2006. Jeff was also a semi-finalist in the Seattle International Comedy Competition. Dye doesn’t use profanity, but is very edgy and creative.
LOUIS RAMEY (finalist): Louis Ramey is a sharp-witted humorist and popular college comedian who was voted the 2006 Comic of the Year by the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities. He has performed on more than a dozen TV shows, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Last Call with Carson Daly and The View. Over the years, Ramey has been invited to perform at many comedy festivals around the world, including HBO’s U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, where he was voted best new artist; the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal; the Halifax Comedy Festival in Nova Scotia; and the Winnipeg Comedy Festival.
JIM TAVARÉ (finalist): Already well-known in his homeland of England, Jim Tavaré is best known for his work on ITV’s The Sketch Show and for playing the role of “Tom the Innkeeper” in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Tavaré has spent several years on TV, having hosted a series for BBC2 as well as his own skit show.
