Irving discloses second human case of West Nile virus

As reported last week, the City of Irving announced a confirmed human case of the mosquito-borne West Nile virus.

Well, now they've confirmed another one.

This second case of the encephalitis-causing disease was contracted by a 33-year-old person living in the 75062 area code; that neighborhood will be sprayed beginning late this evening (Aug. 27) by city employees in an effort to kill the pesky disease-carrying skeeters.

City officials are once again emphasizing the "Four D's" for prevention of mosquito bites:

* Dusk/Dawn - as in "take care during your outdoor activity during these hours"

* Dress - long pants and long-sleeve shirts will limit exposure to biting bugs

* DEET - use a repellent mixture that features this proven-effective ingredient

* Drain - get rid of standing water. Even a little puddle can serve as a 'skeeter breeding ground
