Fort Worth’s Lone Star Film Festival announces highlights of their 2008 event

The organizers of the Fort Worth Film Festival - which will open their second year's festivities on Nov. 12, with screenings and associated events occurring through Nov. 16 - have issued a teaser press release touting some of the early highlights of FWFF 2008.

Amongst the big announcements comes word that Bobbie Wygant, queen of local entertainment reportage, will be serving as Honorary Festival Chair.

Also noted is that Martin Sheen - who last year accepted the festival's lifetime achievement award - will return this year to bestow that honor upon this year's pick.

Primary screening venues for this year's slate of international narrative, documentary, feature and short films will include the AMC Palace Theatre, the Four Day Weekend Theater and the Scott Theatre, with special programs scheduled for the Norris Conference Center, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and the Kimbell Art Museum. Announcements concerning additional venues are forthcoming.

Honorary chair Wygant states: “I feel like this is the beginning of something wonderful. The Lone Star International Film Festival is the fastest-growing cultural event in Fort Worth - a film festival that is going to grow and become not only ‘Lone Star famous,’ but world famous. I am happy and honored to lend my support.”

The first day of the festival - Wed., Nov. 12 - will focus on Fort Worth. In fact, it's been designated "Focus on Fort Worth: A Day in the City," with events celebrating the city's cultural heritage in addition to screenings for local special interest organizations, such as Fort Worth Imagination Celebration, Fort Worth YMCA, the Lena Pope Home, TCU’s Starpoint School, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Fort Worth, and the Arc of Greater Tarrant County.

The opening night gala is scheduled for Thurs., Nov. 13 at the AMC Palace Theater in Sundance Square, with the program yet to be announced.

After Sept. 8, you'll be able to head over to the Fort Worth Film Fest website and purchase festival passes. However, details regarding the lineup of films are still a ways off.
