Since U.S. District Judge Sam Lindsay struck down Ordinance 2903, which would have required apartment complex owners in the City of Farmers Branch to verify and document the citizenship status of their tenants, attorneys for the city have gone back to their drawing boards and come up with another version of the statute.

Just like its predecessor, the new statute - Ordinance 2952 (which goes into effect in 15 days, say city officials) - is designed to keep illegal immigrants from renting a house or apartment in the City of Farmers Branch. In this version of the initiative, prospective renters would be required to obtain a license to rent, by paying $5 to the city and declaring their legal citizenship or residency status.
