A man arrested by McKinney police on Friday afternoon has been charged with felony attempted arson and misdemeanor resisting arrest.

Charles Hill, 40, was seen by neighbors pouring gas out of a gas can on the inside and outside walls of a house at 1011 Kings Row. McKinney police officers responded to a 911 call from a neighbor who had witnessed the suspect pouring gas on the house at shortly before 2 p.m. on Friday. Officers found Hill inside his vehicle outside the residence and approached the vehicle.

According to MPD Lieutenant Scott Brewer, Hill was "mildly confrontational" when approached by officers. After a brief scuffle, Hill was handcuffed and taken into custody.

The suspect lived at the residence but does not own the house, according to Collin County land records. Brewer was mum on an attempted motive and police are continuing their investigation.

Hill does not have a lengthy criminal history. According to Collin County court records, Hill's only court appearance came in December of 1994 on a charge of Driving While License Suspended. The case was disposed after Hill pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year probation, 120 days of community service and had his drivers license suspended.

UPDATE: Hill has been indicted by a Collin County grand jury with felony attempted arson.
