Pegasus News Week in View: Friday the 13th Father’s Day Edition

Happy Friday the 13th! This Sunday is Father's Day and we've got plenty of ideas to honor the man (or men) in your life. This Saturday is also an election day for several towns throughout North Texas. Link here for links voting resources including polling places and hours.

Metro: In Dallas, Industrial Boulevard's new name is still at issue; council members will no longer be able to accept free tickets for Mavs and Stars games; and cops will be tested for steroids. Fort Worth aims to help its homeless, while debating the rights of homeowners when it comes to gas drilling. Flower Mound residents have a new community center with two pools to enjoy just in time for summer. Wilmer Public Citizen is probing a secret party held by a developer seeking the council's aid in rezoning. Best Southwest Citizen highlights the challenges of Duncanville's proposed Main Street development. From Austin, Minor-League Politico also covered the Democratic caucus of state senate District 23 during the party convention last weekend.

Movies: On the film front, Alex caught the steroid doc (documentary, not doctor!) Bigger, Stronger, Faster* and found it quite muscular. Film guy John took on a pair of foreign films: Reprise (from Norway) and The Duchess of Langeais (from France). Sacre bleu balls! John also interviewed Abigail Breslin at the American Girl store in Dallas' Galleria (in anticipation of her new movie release, Kit Kittredge: An American Girl), and met up with Bill Engvall at the Ritz Carlton to get an insider view of the new season of his TBS sitcom. It seems that -- like Borat before him -- Bruno may be making fun of Texans in his forthcoming film. On Friday, watch for new release reviews of The Happening and The Incredible Hulk.

Schools: Dallas ISD teachers dislike the way they're to be paid. Highland Park's superintendent is retiring. Mesquite's football coach repeatedly pawned and repurchased school equipment without consequences.

On stage: North Dallas Gazette loved The Oldest Living Graduate, while Mark-Brian Sonna reviewed two productions inspired by classics: a TV show and a board game.

Listen up: Norah Jones, Edie Brickell and Roy Hargrove (but not Erykah Badu) performed at their alma mater's fancy new building. Dallas' native son Keven McAlester directed the new Old 97's video. Mates of State rocked the Granada. Choral pop marching band Mount Righteous locally released their debut CD. Brenna previews Valeyra and In Fair Verona's Friday show. The DMA's Jazz Under the Stars is still going strong after 25 years.

New 2008 Accords and Civics

Best Bites: T.G. reports on Frito-Lay's health kick. She also reports on local developments in two culinary competitions: NorthPark's cake decorating competition and TV's The Next Food Network Star. If you liked BLT Steak, bummer. North Texas Daily also reviewed Denton's Naranja Cafe.

Sports: Todd assigns the Dallas Stars arbitrary grades in this week's Cupcheck. The Rangers are back above .500, while the Stars' new co-GMs have been extremely busy.

The Biz: If your commute seems longer, it probably is. EF Johnson is saving the Arctic circle, one Mounty at a time. And Tyler Technologies won a big contract with the City of Arlington.

• Check the crazy sound of lounge singer Ricki Derek backed by karaoke tracks at the Cavern
