Dallas Zoo’s last remaining pachyderm to make a run for the border

No word on whether Jenny will have to in fact walk to Mexico.
We're talkin' Jenny the elephant, last remaining pachyderm at the Dallas Zoo.
Jenny will be moving to a wildlife park in Mexico this fall after the worst of the summer heat dies down.
Apparently the relocation has less to do with the price of hay (which hasn't skyrocketed - YET - along with the price of gasoline) and more with the recent death (by euthanization) of her partner and companion, KeKe - and the fact that animal experts agree it's not humane to keep elephants alone in captivity. (They are social animals, like these guys.)
Zoo officials say elephants will be brought back to Dallas when plans are nailed down for an African Savannah exhibit.

It is appalling that Dallas would send Jenny to Mexico when there are 2 perfectly fine sanctuaries right here in the USA.

Just so that clm isn't singled out as the lone elephant rights activist - It is curious why the zoo would consider moving Jenny to Mexico, when, as clm noted, there are a couple of really nice elephant-specific santuaries in the US.
In Mexico, there are no animal wellfare/cruelty protection laws in place like there are in the US. Also, she'll be going to a 4.9 acre enclosure - vs a 300 ( or facility in TN. So basically, she gets to roam around West Village for the next 20-30 years (although in Mexico, maybe the margaritas could be even better than Taco Diner's?).
I know the Dallas zoo is in pretty bad shape financially, but I guess I'd just like to know why they chose a seemingly crappy place in Mexico, rather than TN. Are they getting some $$ from this facility or something? They're just pretty much sweeping it under the carpet, and everyone will forget this elephant 20 years from now when they've trucked-in a couple of new ones to take her place.
Oh well, just a stupid animal, right? Why should the city care? Let's get that Convention Center Hotel built.
