Even though it’s felt like the dog days of summer for a while now, only this past week did we officially celebrate the Summer Solstice (and we still can’t get the red-wine stains out of our Prada Pagan Robes). So now that it’s really, really summertime, step out and worship the sun and our fair city.
You Could Use A Little Culture, Sister: 2 Nights, 2 Artists, 2 Openings
Friday, June 27, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Join the art crowd for the first of two art exhibit opening receptions, this one celebrating the work of Michael Ledoux. The self-taught, mixed media artist creates some amazing pieces that have to be experienced in person to truly appreciate. The second of the “2 artists” is Shane Pennington (reception on July 11). The entire exhibit continues through July 26, but we say go for opening night and feel the electricity of hobnobbing with the creative types.

Save the Grapefruits! Adopt a Real Greyhound: Sugar N’ Paws
Sunday, June 29, 3:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Spend the afternoon doing a few of our favorite things: drinking champagne, eating dessert, shopping for jewelry, and helping rescue dogs. Treats from Grape, Doughmonkey, Lucky Dog Barkery, Nonna, Petit Treats, Café R&D and Dallas Affaires Cake Company will be accompanied by Barefoot Cellars bubbly, all in the beautiful environs of Naomi’s Fine Jewelry. This is a humans-only event, so leave the bitch at home. Proceeds benefit the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas.
Tickets: $45; Naomi’s Fine Jewelry Lounge; (972) 503-GALT; www.galtx.org
Sex, Drugs & Rock ’n Roll: These Fabulous Prizes Can All Be Yours!: Final Voice of Pride Preliminaries
Sunday, June 29, 9:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m.
Stop singing in the shower and wash up in public! Oh wait, sing in public. Or both. Whatev. If you can carry a tune, tonight’s your last chance at local superstardom within the gay community (and $5,000 in cash prizes) as Voice of Pride prepares to head to the elimination round of competition. Sign up before 9:30 or watch your dreams fade away forever. (The show is just as dramatic!)

Who’s Craving Sushi?: Victory Park Movie Series: JAWS
Tuesday, July 1, 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.)
We didn’t swim naked in the ocean for months after the first time we saw JAWS, and we’re sure we’re not alone. Much like heading out into the deep blue, there’s safety in numbers, so catch the granddaddy of all summer event thrillers at AT&T Plaza in Victory Park. Bring your chairs and blankets, but leave your food and drinks at home. There are plenty of concessions available, or catch the mayhem from the comfort of one of the many outdoor patios lining the plaza. Chomp!
Free Admission; Victory Park; www.victoryparktheatre.com

Beer Tasting at Kindred Spirits "He must have been an admiral, a sultan, or a king, and to his praises we shall always sing. Look what he has done for us, he's filled us up with cheer! Victory park Jaws movie sounds like fun but I'll be out of town - bummer.
I hope they open this event to non-gays or at least have a don't ask, don't tell rule.
