The restaurant death march continues: After Saturday June 28 closures of Alessio's, Scene, and the Grotto, comes word of one more: Kirby's Steakhouse in Plano, which also closed on Saturday.
This was the second local outlet of the steakhouse chain, which opened in 1996, following the Dallas branch on Greenville Avenue in 1995, and preceding the Southlake branch which opened in 1999.
"They just weren't seeing the traffic they wanted to see at that store," said an employee at the Dallas branch. Other locations of Kirby's are located in San Antonio and Woodlands near Houston.
Speaking of Houston, the owners are reportedly introducing a new concept in the Plano location that will be more of a Houston's type deal with sandwiches and more casual entrees.

Well, that kinda shoots holes in the "only local steakhouses can make in Texas" line.

The original Kirby's on what came to be called 'lower greenville' but we called 'the neighborhood' when I was growing up and ate there regularly, even on teenage dates....was affordable and down to earth. Somewhere in the 90s, when they reopened and expanded (and the heir won the Texas Lotto?) that ingredient was lost in the recipe shuffle. Adios.

Well, glad my family and I decided to have a dinner at home rather than heading out there on Sunday.
(We got free coupons. Wonder what the people handing them out knew.
