After stalemate, Rockwall budget approved with higher property tax increase

After nobody seconded Rockwall Mayor Bill Cecil's motion to adopt a $22.6 million budget on Monday, the city faced the possibility of entering the new fiscal year on Wednesday without a budget. Adjourning until the following night, the council then rejected two budget proposals before agreeing. The quarrel came over how much to increase property taxes, which the group finally agreed would go from 48.65 cents per $100 valuation to 50.31 cents.
