Downtown Showdown, a Photo Series: Fort Worth

A metroplex is more than just the sum of its parts. Or is it? To dive into the true character of Dallas/Fort Worth, here we present the first segment in a photo series featuring the down towns, old(e) towns and city centers that feed into Dallas/Fort Worth. Each city brings its own character that, together, make D/FW such a special place to live. So keep an eye out for us, we will hit your neighborhood downtown soon. The metroplex, however, is a very large place. To tell its story through only two pairs of eyes (mine and staff photographer Laura Evans) wouldn't do it justice. If you have photos of your area city center, send them to our Flickr group and tag them Downtown Your City's Name and we will feature them in the segment on your city.
We start with Downtown Fort Worth. Fort Worth embraces a history greatly linked to the old west. Back in the day, Fort Worth was the last stop for provisions, liquor and the like for folks heading west. It was also along the Chisholm trail where cattle were driven to the north, hence the nickname "Cowtown." With its history rooted in the old west and its present rooted in gas and energy, it doesn't get much more "Texas" than Fort Worth.
Nicknames: Cowtown, Gateway to the West, Queen City of the Prairies, The Paris of the Plains, Panther City.

This is a rock that is supposed to be where the original "Camp Worth" was located. In case you ever wondered where the old "fort" that gave Fort Worth it's name is, it's gone, but was here. The camp was named after General Jenkins Worth.

This is good peice of the negative made into positive refelctions, of what a City was...and is today, while how you capture the Fort Worth is by sunset, as it is the headboard to the West, looks like a good event, hope I can make it too, you all take care now passing through Arlington..
