School officials confirmed today that Galena Park North Shore will not travel to the Metroplex to play the Carroll Dragons on Saturday as planned. This Houston-area district remains without electrical power for a second week in a row following the devastation caused by Hurricane Ike. This is the second consecutive Dragon home game canceled by a Houston opponent. The Houston Bellaire game originally scheduled for September 12 was canceled due to weather-related team travel restrictions.

The Mustangs are the second Houston-area team forced to cancel a game against the Carroll Dragons following Hurricane Ike.

"We're disappointed with this news but understand that these families and school districts in the Houston area are dealing with much more serious problems than whether or not to play football on the weekend," said Superintendent David J. Faltys. "Their priorities right now are restoring power and getting students back in the classroom."

Galena Park North Shore remains out of school until at least Thursday, perhaps longer if electrical power is not restored. Carroll officials have been unsuccessful in finding a Sept. 27 replacement opponent at this late date.

Local officials have announced, however, that Katy Cinco Ranch will travel to Southlake to play the Dragons on Friday, October 3. This was an open date on the varsity schedule. All pre-game general admission tickets and season tickets originally purchased for the Houston Bellaire game will be honored at the October 3 Cinco Ranch home game.

"We thought we had everything worked out by replacing the Bellaire game with the Cinco Ranch game for ticket holders," said Interim Athletic Director Chauncey Willingham. "Now, we'll have to regroup and come up with a plan for our season ticket holders who will miss out on the Galena Park North Shore game."

School officials say up-to-date information about season tickets and marketing sponsorships will be forthcoming.
