I've never been to Green Papaya for dinner, but since my office is at the corner of Oak Lawn and Maple, it's one of my favorite joints to hit for lunch. Their spring rolls with peanut sauce used to be a favorite of mine, but they weren't as good as usual on my last visit. My current favorite meal is #15, Hu Tieu Xao Tofu (Rice Noodles with Tofu, Chinese Broccoli, Bean Sprouts, Eggs and Green and White Onions). They bring the sauce on the side, so you can add as little or as much as you like. Their portions are huge, and no matter how hungry I am, I can never finish my lunch. Oh, and their ice tea is perfect on a hot day.
Green Papaya is tiny on the inside and the seating on their porch is tight. They have fans and misters, but it is still pretty warm out there if the sun is out. I'd recommend getting there before the lunch crowd to snag a table in the shade, and I'd avoid GP is you have a big group.

Take the car to the back for the "complimentary" valet.
We're seated at one of the many too small tables. The space outside lends itself to the tables moving. Looks too unsteady for soup.
The staff are reasonably friendly and the bar offers the standard Asahi level drinks.
Rolls are sometimes excellent and sometimes tired.
Pho is fragrant if a little small. Noodle dishes are generous in portion and reliable, yet lack some punch.
Opens too late on the weekends. No reason we should have to wait until noon for morning pho tai nam.
Overall, not bad. Better value than East Wind. More expensive than Vietnam / Mai's and loses to both in the tastes.
Worth a visit if the thought of crossing to the east of 75 is too much.
