The Dallas Animal Services and Adoption Center finally opened on Saturday. It's a state-of-the-art facility with 52,000 square feet located at the intersection of North Westmoreland Road and Interstate 30 in west Dallas that houses up to 800 dogs and cats. It replaces the Oak Cliff shelter and the Forney Road shelter. Dallas impounds 35,000 dogs and cats each year. The shelter was built with city bond funds approved by voters in 1998 and 2003, plus a $1 million grant.
