DALLAS Attorney Marcos Ronquillo of the Texas-based law firm of Godwin Pappas & Ronquillo PC, recently was honored as one of four recipients of the 2008 Legal Diversity Award presented by the Texas Diversity Council.
The Legal Diversity Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to the values of diversity, inclusion and cultural understanding. This year’s honorees were recognized for their role in the hiring, retention and promotion of diverse attorneys, as well as their efforts to ensure equal opportunities for all persons involved in the legal profession.
“I am very honored to receive this award, especially from such a highly respected organization,” said Mr. Ronquillo, President, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Partner of Godwin Pappas & Ronquillo. “The Texas Diversity Council is committed to promoting diversity and helping companies understand that success is about surrounding yourself with the most talented people, not merely those who fit a preconceived image. It is humbling that they feel I have been able to help bring that sensibility to the legal profession.”
The Legal Diversity Award is the latest honor for Mr. Ronquillo, who is a former President of the Dallas Mexican American Bar Association and Chairman of the Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He is a past recipient of the national Spirit of Excellence Award presented by the American Bar Association’s National Commission on Minority Lawyers. Mr. Ronquillo also is a past recipient of the State Bar of Texas President’s Special Citation Award and Outstanding Lawyer of the Year Award from the Texas Mexican American Bar Association.
“Marcos is a leader in every sense of the word. He is an exceptional lawyer who has helped start and nurture the careers of countless attorneys,” says Donald E. Godwin, firm Chairman and CEO. “The Texas Diversity Council could not have made a better selection.”
The award was presented during the Texas Diversity Council’s Fourth Annual Texas Diversity & Leadership Conference & Exposition held May 14-16 in Houston. The theme for the conference was “Deconstructing the Texas Glass Ceiling.” Among the keynote speakers during the conference were award-winning director Spike Lee and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. Former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft was the featured speaker for the Legal Diversity Luncheon where Mr. Ronquillo received his award.
